Regularly Clean Hardwood

You must learn how to clean hardwood floors. Grit and dirt can scratch and mark the floors. Wood floors attract dust better than carpet or vinyl. Hardwood floors need to be vacuumed regularly at least once a day after events that leave dirt and grit. You should not use household dusting products or cleaners that are made for hardwood. Vacuuming can be more efficient than sweeping. It allows dirt and dust between the boards to be pulled. It is recommended that you use a vacuum with an attachment for bare flooring.

If you need to clean the floors more deeply, choose a cleaner that matches your flooring’s finish. If your hardwood floor is glossy, you have applied polyurethane to it or used a water-based or similar finish as a protection barrier. If your floor has a matte appearance, it is protected using an oil-based or wax-based penetration seal. Both these finishes cannot be used in water but both can be cleaned with damp mop. You are not cleaning the entire surface. Water cannot penetrate the oil-and–waxed hardwood. If you have oil and waxed hardwood, you can use a damp mop. A little bit of neutral pH hardwood cleaner can be added to the water. Dip your mop in it. A glossy, protected floor can be cleaned with a generic hardwood cleaner provided that it does not contain oils or wax.
